Day 1

Untitled

This safari will take approximately 6-7hours of travel from Nairobi and your tour guide cum driver will pick you at 7.30am. The journey is about 360km to Lake Victoria in Kisumu city though the great rift valley where your guide will make a brief stop here for the viewing and some photo opportunity. You will then proceed down the rift valley to Kericho where you will enjoy the view of the expansive tea plantation that disappear into valleys and hills. You will arrive in Kisumu between 1pm and 2pm upon which you will have your lunch. After breakfast, your journey starts at 7.30 am toward Kereita forest by road. There will be a brief stop at the escarpment to view the great Rift valley. After an hour and half you will arrive at the Carbacid forest gate. This will be your starting point of an unforgettable experience. You will begin by walking to a small natural spring nearby that is mysterious for its underground bubbling water and contains co2. From here you will follow the trail deeper into the forest. You will descend into the first river valley and the clearing will give way to the indigenous forest and come across giant ferns, climbers and thicker undergrowth that compete for the sunlight that filters through old huge trees standing tall that has been untouched by human exploitation. The trail is hardly discernible due to the infrequent visitors and you will hear the cries of monkeys and the chirping of birds as they echo through the forest. After 2 hours, you will descend the second river valley and pass by the elephant pool, a water body where elephants come for an escapade. Another hour's walk eventually brings you to the Kereita waterfall that drops 60ft to the stream below. On the right side of the cave there is a cave with a small population of bats. You shall take a break here to absorb the beauty and the cool air On your way back, you will be taken through a different trail atop the ridge out of the valley and to a bamboo forest. The trail leads to the highest point and from there you will see Mount Longonot, Nairobi city and the Elephant hill. This trip will take approximately 5 hours to complete and then you will be taken back to Nairobi after lunch in a nice restaurant within the forest.
